Prize Money and International Competition Stipends to be Awarded at USA Judo Senior National Championships

Ari Berliner won gold at the last three Senior National Championships.

(Colorado Springs, CO) – Senior elite and visually impaired athletes will be eligible to win up to $1,500 in prize money and travel, training and competition stipends at the USA Judo Senior National Championships on May 25 in Ontario, CA. Kata National Champions also will be eligible for prize money in Ontario as announced here.

Thanks to the generous donations from members of the USA Judo community, medalists in both the senior elite and visually impaired categories will be eligible to win $500 for gold, $250 for silver and $125 for bronze in each of the Olympic and Paralympic weight categories.

In addition, Senior National Champions will be eligible to receive up to $1,000 in funding for international travel and training expenses. Visually Impaired National Champions will be eligible to receive up $1,000 in funding for domestic or international travel and training expenses.

Details regarding eligibility are as follows:

Eligible Categories (Senior Elite Only):
Men’s 60 kg, 66 kg, 73 kg, 81 kg, 90 kg, 100 kg and +100 kg

Women’s 48 kg, 52 kg, 57 kg, 63 kg, 70 kg, 78 kg and +78 kg

Rules to receive funding:

  • Medalist must have a rank of at least a brown belt.
  • Medalist must have won a minimum of three (3) contested matches, with no byes or no walkovers. Athletes competing in round robin events are not eligible for prize money.

*Level and location of international event to be determined in collaboration with USA Judo High Performance Director.

Athletes competing in the Visually Impaired categories listed below will be eligible for prize money for gold, silver and bronze medal finishes. In addition, the gold medalist will receive up to $1,000 in funding for domestic or international travel and training expenses as detailed below:
