(Colorado Springs, CO) – One year after exiting in the first round, Henry Parasadanian (North Hollywood, Calif. / Hayastan MMA Academy) was determined that history would not repeat itself as the 2024 Cadet World Championships got underway Wednesday in Lima, Peru. Fighting in the men’s 55kg class, Parasadanian placed fifth in his final year of eligibility in the cadet division.

Parasadanian sent an immediate message that he was ready for the day’s challenge by defeating top-seeded Gal Blazic of Slovenia by ippon early in Golden Score (sudden death overtime) of his opening match. Then in the round of 16, Parasadanian defeated Poland’s Wojciech Michalak by scoring two waza-aris (half-points).

A loss by waza-ari to eventual silver medalist Bat-Enerel Batbileg of Mongolia in the quarterfinals sent Parasadanian to the repechage where he advanced by disqualification over Kazakhstan’s Yernur Batyrgali.

In the bronze-medal match, Parasadanian faced Ukraine’s Khazar Heydarov and the Ukrainian scored a waza-ari midway through the three-minute round to secure the victory.

Also in action for Team USA on Wednesday’s opening day were a pair of 14-year-olds competing in their first Cadet World Championships.

In the men’s 50kg division, Dmitry Kondratev (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Darfight) was thrown for an ippon by Axel Cuq of France in the round of 16. Likewise, Linda Dervisoglu (Dallas, Texas / Eastside Dojo) lost via ippon to eventual bronze medalist Africa Puente Lopez of Spain in the women’s 44kg round of 16.
