2024 Senior National Ranking Rosters

    • Women's Senior National Ranking Rosters
    • USA Judo

Athletes shall receive classification and points on the Senior national roster based on their finishes in various national and international events as indicated in the table given below.

For each of the Male and Female Senior Rosters, and for each separate weight, athletes are ranked first by alphabetic level (A, B, C, etc.) which denotes the highest National/International level at which active points were earned, then by total points earned.

Where possible, ties are broken by board-approved tie-breaking procedures listed below.

    Summary of the system
    • Athletes who medal in A+ level events will earn A+ level classification.
    • Athletes who medal in A level events, will earn A level classification.
    • Similarly for other level events.
    • In events where 5th place is recognized by USA Judo protocol, athletes will be classified one level below the event classification, i.e. 5th place in a B level event will earn C level classification.
    • In E-level events, classification and points are earned in the highest senior-level divisions at those events, in weight categories that are tracked by USA Judo.
    • Athletes must win at least one match (no byes, no walkovers) in order to obtain senior points.
    • Ties will be broken through the tie break criteria.
    • All athletes requesting to compete in an International event outside of North America must be ranked on the USA Judo Senior Elite National Roster or have approval from the USA Judo High Performance Committee.
    • In order for an athlete to earn points on the roster, they MUST be a USA Judo member by the end of the event. If an athlete is not a member by the end of the event, the athlete will not be eligible for placement on the roster.
    • Both Points and Classification earned at a particular event are current for a maximum of one year, or on anniversary date of that event (if a regularly scheduled annual event) if its anniversary occurs in less than a year
    • If any of the following regularly scheduled annual events are held within 30 days of the anniversary date, the points and classification earned from that event will remain on the roster until the following year's event:

      • USA Judo Senior National Championships
      • USA Judo Junior Olympic Championships
      • USA Judo Youth National Championships
      • USA Judo President's Cup
    • As of June 19th, 2023, all U.S. athletes competing in USA Judo National Point events will receive National Roster Points only in the age group and weight division in which they competed during the event.

Example: If a Cadet athlete medals in a Senior division, that athlete will only receive points on the Senior National Roster. The athlete will not receive points on the IJF-Junior and/or Cadet roster(s).

    Effective Thursday, January 6, 2022

    • Athlete rosters will be checked at the beginning of each month for current USA Judo membership.
    • Athletes will be notified via email that their membership is due to expire in the respective month and they have until the last day of the month to renew. This is considered your grace period.
    • If the athlete does not renew by the last day of the month, they will be removed from the roster and any points earned/listed will not be reinstated if the athlete renews after being removed.
    • If the athlete is removed from the roster due to lapsed membership and they renew after the 30 days, any points earned at events from the time of renewal will be recorded.
    • Any athlete, whose membership has/will lapsed during this month period and is selected/approved for an event representing the United States during this grace period, the athlete MUST renew their membership within 24 hours of selection notification by/to the national office. Failure to do so will result in them not being approved for participation.
    • Competition in Novice categories does not earn points on the USA Judo national roster (regardless of citizenship).
    • As long as an athlete meets the criteria of the International Judo Federation’s (IJF) refugee program and is currently approved with proof of documentation/acceptance from the IJF to participate in this program, then the athlete may compete at USA Judo sanctioned point events and earn points on the USA Judo national roster.
    • If a category is split into light and heavy due to weight disparities, only the heavier weight division will be awarded points.
    • Any athlete who wishes to be placed on the USA Judo national roster must have both U.S. Citizenship / approved IJF refugee status and Date Of Birth documentation verified and listed on the athletes' USA Judo membership profile.
    • Athletes may earn points in multiple categories but will only be selected/approved in their true age/weight category for international competition.

In the event there are two or more athletes with identical numbers of points, within the same category of competition, the following protocol shall be utilized to rank such athletes.

    1. The athlete with the highest point totals on the IJF Ranking List in use at the time of the need to break the tie (Olympic Ranking List or World Ranking List).
    2. If a tie still exists after applying “1,” the athlete with the most international points as reflected from the USA Judo Ranking roster in use at the time of the need to break the tie.
    3. If a tie still exists after applying “1” and “2” the highest medalist at the previous USA Judo Senior National Championships.
    4. If a tie still exists after applying “1,” “2,” “3” the result from the most recent head-to-head competition at a C level event or higher going back no more than 12 months.
    5. If the above fails to provide criteria for breaking a tie, the High Performance Committee shall be responsible for selection of athletes, male and female.
