Tashkent Grand Prix

Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, hosted its 7th edition of the Tashkent Grand Prix last weekend, September 20-22, 2019.

The Olympic qualifying period is in full-swing. 423 athletes from 71 countries made the trip to Uzbekistan where valuable points were distributed towards the World Ranking List.

Team USA Results:
Nefeli Papadakis - 5th Place
L.A. Smith - 7th Place

USA Judo athletes, Nefeli Papadakis and L.A. Smith may have fallen shy of the podium but they gained valuable points toward their World Rank.

Young athlete (20-years old), Nefeli Papadakis placed 5th in Tashkent, jumping her up two spots to #28 on the International Judo Federation’s WRL and #24 on the Olympic Ranking List (with a current qualifying position of #17) in the -78kg weight class.

With a 7th place finish at the Tashkent Grand Prix on Sunday, L.A. Smith jumped up 5 spots to #37 on the -100kg weight class WRL and Olympic Ranking List.

Up next on the tour is the Grand Slam in Brazil on October 6-8.

 

World Ranking List (WRL): The International Judo Federation’s World Ranking Roster includes points from all IJF international events over the past 24 months including the five best results plus one result. Events within the past 12 months after the tournament will count 100%, while events longer than 12 months, the points will reduce to 50%. After 24 months, the points are reduced to zero.

Olympic Ranking List (ORL): The Olympic Ranking List includes points from IJF international events from May 1, 2018 – May 30, 2020. The list will likely change significantly until May 30, 2020, which is the deadline for obtaining points for Olympic qualification.
