The 29th Annual Golden State Open Judo Tournament occurred on Friday, May 17th to Sunday, May 19th in Covina, California. The event had 283 competitors ranging from ages 5 to 70 years old.

The first Golden State Open was held in 1981, outside, on the top of tennis courts. They had approximately 100 competitors. This event was hosted at Cal Poly Pomona University.

The 29th Annual Golden State Open Judo Tournament saw an increase in Seniors and Master divisions this year. The tournament director believes its due to the timing before the USA Judo Senior Nationals and location.

This event was greatly supported by the Frank and Eric Sanchez, and was staffed by the volunteers of parents, grandparents, family and friends of the judo club.
