2023 Judo Carnival

(Colorado Springs, CO) – For the first time ever, the Cuban Judo Federation will be hosting the Judo Carnival in Varadero, Cuba from April 5-9.

The five-day tournament will include competition for the following age categories:

  • Cadet (Born 2006-2008), April 5
  • Junior (Born 2003-2008), April 6
  • U15 (Born 2009-2010), April 7
  • U13 (Born 2011-2012), April 7
  • Senior Open (Born 2008 or earlier), April 8-9
  • Veterans (Born 1993 or earlier), April 8-9

The Varadero Senior Pan American Open is an opportunity to earn IJF World Ranking points and serves as a qualifying event for both the 2024 Olympic Games as well as the 2023 Pan American Games. Athletes also will be eligible to earn C Level points on the USA Judo Senior National Rosters.

Athletes competing in the junior and cadet events are eligible to earn Continental Cup points on the IJF Junior and Cadet World Ranking lists as well as Level 4 points on the USA Judo Junior and Cadet National Rosters. USA Judo will have an official coaching staff onsite for the Junior and Cadet Cup with the top competitors in the nation scheduled to attend in preparation for the 2023 Junior and Cadet World and Pan American Championship events.

Points also will be available for the U15 (Juvenile) and U13 (Intermediate) events on the USA Judo National Rosters as a Level 5 tournament.

Veteran competition will be conducted utilizing the new IJF age categories as follows:

F1 / M1 (30-39)
F2 / M2 (40-49)
F3 / M3 (50-59)
F4 / M4 (60-64)
F5 / M5 (65-69)
F6 / M6 (70+)

Note: Athletes may be combined with those in the next higher or lower age division if necessary.
