2022 Fuengirola Cadet European Cup Preview

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) – Ten of USA Judo’s top cadet athletes will compete in Spain this weekend at the Fuengirola Cadet European Cup where Team USA will compete against athletes from 15 nations.
In addition to competing on the European circuit for the first time, these athletes also will be participating in a three-day training camp after the competition in order to gain additional valuable international experience.

Saturday, February 19
Men’s 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 66kg
Women’s 40kg, 44kg 48kg, 52kg
Sunday, February 20
Men’s 73kg, 81kg, 90kg, +90kg
Women’s 57kg, 63kg, 70kg, +70kg
The U.S. squad features six men and four women, including five Junior or Cadet Pan American medalists:
- Javier Delgado (Miami, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai / 55kg), 2020 Cadet Pan Am silver medalist
- Christopher Velazco (Coral Springs, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai / 60kg), two-time Cadet Pan Am Champion
- Alex Prado (Coral Springs, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai / 60kg), 2021 Youth National Champion
- Kevin Do Carmo (Lehigh Acres, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai / 66kg), 2021 Junior Olympic and Youth National Champion
- Aren Balagezyan (Rego Park, N.Y. / International Judo Center / 81kg), 2021 Junior Olympic and Youth National silver medalist
- Nikolas Vithoulkas (Whitestone, N.Y. / International Judo Center / 90kg), 2021 Cadet Pan Am silver medalist
- Nicole Cancela (Coral Springs, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai / 52kg), 2021 Junior Pan Am Champion
- Mackenzee Bunton (Fort Worth, Texas / Fort Worth Judo Club / 63kg), 2021 Junior U.S. Open bronze medalist
- Emily Jaspe (Hialeah, Fla. / Ki-Itsu-Sai / 63kg), 2021 Junior Olympic and Youth National silver medalist
