Phil Horiuchi Earns Top 32 Finish in Senior World Championship Debut

(Colorado Springs, CO) – Competing at his first Senior World Championships, Phil Horiuchi (West Covina, CA / LA Tenri) advanced to the round of 32 in the +100 kg division at the Senior World Championships in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

A 2023 Pan Am Games member, Horiuchi threw Moustapha Fofana (GUI) for a waza-ari score to secure his win in the round of 64.

In the round of 32, Horiuchi was pinned by 2024 European Championships bronze medalist Marius Fizel (SVK).

The Senior World Championships served as the final major qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games. The Olympic Rankings List will be updated by the International Judo Federation in the coming days.
